The practical part
Shipping & returns.
Shipping
We ship within the United States only for now. Standard shipping is $6.95, and free on orders of $75 or more after any coupon. Lehengas are the exception: they are bulky and go in a box of their own, so an order containing one is a flat $24 — one charge however many lehengas are in it, and free shipping does not apply. Orders ship within 2 business days and typically arrive in 3–7 business days — estimates rather than promises, once the parcel is with the carrier. You’ll receive tracking by email the moment your package is on its way.
Special-order pieces are the exception, on every count above. They take about four weeks rather than 3–7 days, shipping is charged with the balance instead of today, and the $75 is judged on the full price of the piece rather than on the deposit you pay now — so a $100 piece still ships free, even though the deposit on it is only $35. Special Order, just below, sets out how they work.
Seeing a piece before you buy. What we have in stock is here in Sunnyvale, TX. If you would like to look at something in person, email us at info@jansposhakllc.com and we will arrange a time — there is no shop floor and no set hours, so it is always by appointment. If you like the piece, order it online and collect it, and there is no shipping to pay. If you don’t, that is genuinely fine and nothing is owed.
Choosing collection at checkout. Tick I’ll collect it from Jans Poshak in your bag and no shipping is charged — the total you pay is the piece and the tax, and nothing towards postage. We will then arrange a time with you by email.
By appointment, always. There is no shop floor and nobody waiting at a counter, so we cannot take walk-ins — a caller without an appointment cannot be seen, and we would rather say that here than turn somebody away who has driven out. Write to us and we will find a time that suits.
Once you take it away, it is yours. You are welcome to try the piece on when you come, and to look at it as long as you like. But a piece collected in person cannot afterwards be returned or exchanged for a change of mind, and earns no store credit: you have seen it, handled it and accepted it, which is precisely the thing a returns window exists to give a distance shopper instead. If you are not happy with it while you are here, do not take it — say so and we will refund you on the spot.
That is about changing your mind, and it is the only thing it is about. If a collected piece turns out to be faulty, or is not the piece you ordered, it is ours to put right on the same terms as anything else we sell — see below.
A special-order piece isn’t here to be looked at — it doesn’t exist until you order it, which is the whole point of it. You are still welcome to collect that one rather than have it posted; say so before you settle the balance and there is no shipping on it either.
One thing we would rather say plainly than leave you to wonder about: the trip is your own. We can’t cover travel or offer anything towards it, and there is no obligation on either side either way.
Un Stitched & Semi Stitched
Some Indian wear still has to be made before it can be worn. Some simply arrives with a length of cloth left uncut, ready for a tailor if you want one. Where either is true, the piece says so in place of a size — and the two are not the same thing, so they are set out separately here.
Semi Stitched — a lehenga-choli that is not ready to wear and cannot be tried on as it arrives. A tailor has to take your measurements and make the choli and the lehenga to them. Finding a tailor and booking the work are yours to arrange, and the wait can be considerable in wedding season, so it is worth lining one up before you order rather than after.
Un Stitched Blouse — the blouse piece comes as part of the saree and is not cut out. The saree can be draped and worn exactly as it arrives with a blouse you already have. If you would rather have a matching blouse, a tailor cuts the piece out and stitches it to your measurements. All sarees come with an un-stitched blouse piece unless the piece says otherwise.
Any alteration is allowed only after purchase, and any alteration ends the return. Once a piece has been altered or stitched it cannot be returned, it cannot be exchanged, and it earns no store credit — and that holds wherever the work was done, including by us. A piece that has been worn is not taken back either. So while it is still unstitched, uncut and unworn, it can come back on the same terms as anything else; after a tailor has been to it, it cannot.
None of that touches a piece that arrives damaged, wrong, or doesn’t arrive — see below. That is ours to fix whatever state the piece is in.
Special Order
A few of our pieces aren’t ones we hold on a shelf — they are made for you once you order. Those are marked special order on the piece and again in your bag, and they are paid for in two parts rather than one.
You pay a 35% deposit today, and that is all we take now. Your piece is then made and shipped to us from India, which takes about four weeks from the day the deposit is paid. When it reaches us we write to you for the remaining 65% plus shipping, and it goes out as soon as that is settled — nothing is sent before the balance is paid. The exact figures are shown before you pay, and the deposit and the balance always come to the price on the piece, to the cent.
If we don’t get your piece to you within four weeks of taking your deposit, you get the whole deposit back — the money, back to the card you paid with, not store credit. That is our side of the bargain and we would rather write it down than have you take it on trust.
Your deposit is not refundable if you change your mind, because the piece is commissioned and made for you, and we pay for it the moment you order. That is why we say it here, on the piece, and in your bag — before you pay rather than afterwards. It is the one thing on this page we can’t be flexible about, and we would rather you knew that at the start.
None of that touches what happens when the fault is ours. If your piece arrives damaged, arrives wrong, or doesn’t arrive at all, everything you have paid comes back in full — deposit, balance and shipping alike — exactly as set out below. And once it is safely with you it sits under the same returns rules as everything else we sell.
Two practical notes, because checkout will otherwise stop you. A special-order piece has to be ordered on its own: it is paid for in two parts and arrives about four weeks later, so it can’t share an order with something we’d post this week. And coupon codes and store credit can’t be used on one.
Everything in stock is unaffected by any of this. Those orders are paid for once, ship within 2 business days, and typically arrive in 3–7 business days, just as above.
Changed your mind before it ships?
Email or call us and we’ll cancel the order and refund you in full to your card, as long as it hasn’t shipped yet. We pack within 2 business days, so the sooner you tell us the better — once your tracking email has gone out, treat it as a return instead. A special-order deposit is the one exception: that piece is already being made for you four weeks before it could ship, so the deposit isn’t returned if you change your mind. Special Order, above, says why.
Occasionally we have to cancel an order ourselves: two people reach for the last piece in the same minute, or something is mispriced. If that happens we’ll write to you and refund you in full straight away. We don’t hold money for something we can’t send — and that goes for a deposit too: if a special-order piece isn’t with you within four weeks of us taking your deposit, the whole deposit comes back.
Returns & exchanges
Fit matters — especially with ethnic wear. If a piece isn’t right, write to us within 7 days of delivery and we’ll arrange an exchange or store credit. Items must be unworn, unwashed, and still have their original tags attached — a piece without its tags can’t be taken back.
Tags alone are not enough. If a piece shows any sign of having been used — marks, creasing from wear, makeup, deodorant, or the scent of perfume, incense, smoke, food or any other substance — we cannot accept it back, even with every tag still in place. We are sorry to be firm about this: a returned piece goes to the next customer, and scent in particular does not come out of embroidered and embellished fabric. Please try a piece on somewhere clean and unscented, before wearing it.
Please note that for a simple change of mind — the fit didn’t work, the color wasn’t what you pictured — we settle returns as an exchange or store credit, not as a refund to your card, and the original shipping isn’t refunded. We’re a small shop working in small batches, and that is what lets us keep taking pieces back at all. Store credit doesn’t expire.
Exchanges depend on what’s left — much of what we carry is one or two of a kind. If the size or color you want has gone, we’ll tell you, and the return is settled as store credit instead.
Some pieces can’t come back for a change of mind at all: a saree whose blouse we had stitched for you, a semi-stitched piece a tailor has made up, and anything else altered to your measurements. A saree sold with its blouse already made — marked Stitched Blouse — is not that: nothing was done to it for you, so it comes back like anything else. When in doubt, email us photos and measurements before ordering and we’ll advise sizing honestly — the size guide is the best starting point.
Services are not refunded or exchanged — draping, pre-ironing, kuchu work, an alteration. Every one of them is cut, stitched or set for one person and one piece, so the work can’t be taken back off afterwards and it can’t be passed to anybody else. That holds whether the service was booked on its own or added to something you bought.
That is the rule rather than the whole story. If you are unhappy with how a service turned out, tell us — we would far rather hear it than not, and we will talk it through with you properly and reach an understanding wherever we can. And it cuts both ways: if we can’t carry out a service you have paid for, you get that money back in full. Nothing above applies to work we didn’t do.
Caring for your pieces
These are not everyday clothes. Silk, zari, embroidery, beadwork and sequins behave nothing like cotton, and most of the damage we see is done at home in the first month rather than out at an event.
Dry clean only. Please don’t machine wash, hand wash or soak a piece, however gentle it looks. Water and detergent lift deep dyes, shrink silk, and loosen zari and beadwork — usually on the very first wash, and it cannot be undone. Tell your cleaner it is embellished Indian wear so they use a gentle process and protect the work. A washed piece also can’t be returned or exchanged, so if you are still deciding, keep it dry.
If something spills, blot it with a dry cloth and take it in — don’t rub, scrub or wring. Perfume and deodorant go on before you dress, and want a moment to dry: alcohol marks silk, and scent stays in embroidery long after it has left skin.
Iron on the lowest setting, inside out, with a cloth between the iron and the fabric, and never directly over embroidery or sequins. Store pieces folded in cotton or muslin rather than plastic — plastic traps moisture and yellows zari over time — and refold along a different line every few months, because silk creases permanently where it sits folded. Keep them out of direct sunlight, which fades deep colors faster than wearing them does.
A deep color may transfer very slightly onto a light lining or blouse in the first wear or two. That is normal in richly dyed fabric and is not a fault.
If something arrives damaged, wrong, or not at all
That is ours to fix, not yours, and none of the limits above apply to it. Email us photos within 7 days of delivery and we’ll replace the piece or refund you in full to your original payment method, including what you paid for shipping — your choice. We cover the return postage, and this holds even for a stitched or altered piece.
If a parcel is lost, or the carrier says delivered and it isn’t there, tell us within 7 days. We’ll chase the carrier and put it right — a replacement if we still have the piece, a full refund if we don’t.
Sending a piece back
Write to us first at info@jansposhakllc.com with your order number and a line about what’s wrong. We’ll reply within one business day with the return address and confirm what we’ve agreed. Please don’t post anything back before you hear from us — a parcel that arrives on its own is very hard to match to an order.
For a change of mind or a fit that didn’t work, return postage is yours. If the piece was damaged, faulty or not what you ordered, we cover the postage both ways. We don’t charge a restocking fee. Send it within 7 days of our agreeing the return, with its original tags still attached, packed so it arrives as it left, and please use a tracked service — until it reaches us it’s still in your care.
How refunds work
Where a refund is due — a cancellation before shipping, a damaged, wrong or undelivered order, or a special-order piece we couldn’t get to you within four weeks — it goes back to the original payment method, the same card, Apple Pay or Google Pay you paid with. We can’t send one somewhere else, and we don’t refund by cash or transfer. Two things are not on that list: a change of mind about a special-order piece, where the deposit stays with us, and a service, which is not refunded or exchanged once booked.
We send an approved refund within 2 business days of the piece reaching us, or of our agreeing the refund when nothing is coming back. Your bank then takes its own time, usually 5–10 business days, before it shows on your statement. We’ll email you the moment we send it, so you know the clock has started.
Store credit
Store credit sits on your account and applies at checkout with one tap when you’re signed in. It doesn’t expire, it belongs to the email address it was issued to and can’t be passed on, and it can’t be cashed out.
Two practical notes. Store credit covers your pieces but not the last 50¢ of the order, so a small amount plus shipping and any tax always goes on your card — that’s our payment processor’s minimum charge, not a fee of ours. And store credit and coupon codes can’t be used on the same order, so use whichever leaves you better off — and neither can be used on a special-order piece.
If an order you paid for partly with credit is later refunded, the credit goes back onto your account and the card part goes back to your card, so you end up where you started.
Payments
Checkout is processed by Stripe — cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All prices and charges are in US dollars (USD). Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. The charge will appear on your statement as JANSPOSHAK. A special-order piece appears twice under that same name — the deposit when you order, the balance when your piece arrives. Any applicable sales tax is calculated and shown at checkout, based on your shipping address.
